Cabelaʼs, the worldʼs largest direct marketer of hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise, and Pertnear, LLC, a marketing agency with a specialization in growing audiences on Facebook, have surpassed the 1 million fan benchmark on Cabelaʼs page on Facebook. Cabelaʼs retained Pertnear in October 2010. "We were given the challenge to help them grow from about 230,000 to 500,000 in 90 days. We reached that goal in about 60 days," said Jeremy Koch, Founder and Partner at Pertnear agency. By the end of the 90 days, Cabela's had exceeded 600,000.
"Our goal was to identify people passionate about the outdoors and get them to the Cabela's page on Facebook, where they could share their experiences with other outdoor enthusiasts. Cabela's was (and is) interested in offering a unique experience on Facebook. They want to build a community of outdoor enthusiasts.” That strategy is appearing to pay off in huge numbers. Since hitting 600,000 by the end of 2010, Cabela's on Facebook has grown significantly and virally, most recently passing the 1 million mark. “One of the main goals of our efforts on Facebook is to build a community that is as pure as possible in regards to outdoor interests and pursuits, a community of like interests that grows organically on its own,” said Derek Fortna, Marketing Manager for Cabelas.com. “Pertnear understood this objective clearly, and their skills in targeted Facebook advertising served in maintaining it quite efficiently.”
